AutoGrab and AADA Release September 2025 Australian Automotive Insights Report
AutoGrab, Australia’s leading automotive platform, in partnership with the Australian Automotive Dealer Association (AADA), has released the September 2025 Automotive Insights Report (AIR), delivering a definitive view of national used car sales and listings across both dealer and private markets.
The report highlights that dealers continue to play a central role in used vehicle sales, accounting for 53.1% of the 200,916 total sales in September, up from 46.1% the previous month. Dealers also represented the majority of listings, with 59.8% of the 338,090 vehicles for sale coming from dealer networks.
Segment and regional performance showed significant shifts. Dealer sales increased in New South Wales (+2.3%) and the Northern Territory (+12.7%), while Victoria (-2.0%) and the ACT (-13.8%) recorded notable declines. This variability highlights the different market dynamics dealers are navigating across states and territories.
The Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux continued to dominate dealer sales, with both models exceeding 2,000 transactions in September. Other standout performers included the Mitsubishi Triton (+18.3%), Mitsubishi Outlander (+17.8%), and Subaru Outback (+22.3%), underscoring strong demand for utility vehicles and SUVs through dealer channels.
The report also highlights pressure points in dealer inventory. Market Days Supply indicates that mainstream models such as the MG MG5 (23 days) are in short supply, while newer EVs, including the Hyundai Ioniq 6 (490 days) and Kia Niro (274 days), are significantly oversupplied. This imbalance illustrates the challenges dealers face in aligning stock levels with changing consumer demand, particularly in the EV segment.
The September 2025 Automotive Insights Report reinforces the vital role of dealers in maintaining stability, choice, and transparency within Australia’s used car market, even as technology, fuel preferences, and consumer behaviour continue to evolve.

“Dealers remain the backbone of the Australian used car market, not only driving the majority of sales but also providing customers with trusted access to the most in-demand models. This month’s report shows how quickly dealers adapt to shifting demand while continuing to deliver value to buyers nationwide.”
“The data highlights both opportunity and challenge. While mainstream models and SUVs continue to move quickly off dealer lots, oversupply in the EV category is becoming more pronounced. Dealers will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between growing EV supply and consumer adoption.”
